Slope Calculator

Calculate Slope (m) between Two Points

How to Calculate Slope Using the Calculator

  1. Navigate to the Page with the Calculator:
    • Open your web browser and go to the page where you added the Slope Calculator shortcode (e.g., yourwebsite.com/your-page).
  2. Select Calculation Type:
    • 2 Points are Known: Choose this option if you have the coordinates of two points on a line. The calculator will compute the slope (m) using these two points.
    • 1 Point and the Slope are Known: Choose this option if you know one point on the line and the slope (m). The calculator will find the y-intercept (b) for you.
  3. Input Values:
    • Depending on your selection, different fields will appear:

    For “2 Points are Known”:

    • Enter the coordinates of the two points:
      • Point 1 (x1, y1): Fill in the x- and y-coordinates of the first point.
      • Point 2 (x2, y2): Fill in the x- and y-coordinates of the second point.
    • Click Calculate Slope to find the slope.

For “1 Point and the Slope are Known”:

    • Enter the x- and y-coordinates of the known point.
    • Enter the Slope (m) of the line.
    • Click Calculate Y-Intercept to find the y-intercept (b) of the line.
  4. View the Result:
    • The result will appear below the form, showing the slope (m) or y-intercept (b), depending on your calculation type.
  5. Clear Fields (optional):
    • To clear all input fields and the output result, click Clear. Alternatively, switching between calculation types will also clear the fields.

Example Scenarios

Example 1: Calculate Slope When “2 Points are Known”

  • Input:
    • Point 1 (x1, y1): (2, 3)
    • Point 2 (x2, y2): (5, 11)
  • Result: Slope (m) will display as 2.67.

Example 2: Calculate Y-Intercept When “1 Point and the Slope are Known”

  • Input:
    • Point (x, y): (2, 3)
    • Slope (m): 2
  • Result: Y-Intercept (b) will display as -1.

This guide should help you easily calculate slopes and y-intercepts using your calculator.
